Rohan Jalalizadeh, M.D. graduated summa cum laude as valedictorian of his class from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 2012 with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. He attended medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, where he graduated in 2016. He conducted his medical internship at St. Louis University before moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he completed his residency at the University of Michigan W. K. Kellogg Eye Center, consistently ranked among the best ophthalmology training programs in the country. He returned to St. Louis, Missouri for his 2-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at The Retina Institute.
During his time at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Jalalizadeh co-founded and led Sling Health®, a national medical engineering incubator that is based in universities around the United States to educate and train the next generation of innovators in medical technology solutions.
Awards, Clinical Research & Authorships
Dr. Jalalizadeh has received numerous academic awards and accolades, including the Langsdorf Fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, a full tuition merit scholarship, the McKelvey Undergraduate Research Scholarship for demonstrating dedication to research, and the Antoinette Frances Dames Award for Academic Excellence, among others. In 2019 he was a finalist in the Ophthalmology Times Research Scholar Honoree Program, and in 2022 he was awarded the top prize at the annual Fellows Forum senior vitreoretinal fellows competition.
For his entrepreneurial endeavors in medical device development, in 2014 Dr. Jalalizadeh was recognized as a member of the Kairos Top 50 entrepreneurs under 25. He has also won numerous local business awards in St. Louis, including I2P (Idea to Product) and Arch Grants.
Dr. Jalalizadeh is passionate about advancing the field of eye care, having authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and edited academic texts in ophthalmology. He has presented his work at national retina conferences and continues to make research a priority as a sub-investigator in numerous clinical trials at RCA for conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, Stargardt’s disease, and others.

Dr. Jalalizadeh is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Jalalizadeh strongly believes in giving back to his community and loves to help young people find their passions and succeed. In his free time, he volunteers as a youth group leader through neighborhood community-building initiatives of the Baha’i Faith. He also enjoys playing the piano and violin, hiking, and playing board games with his friends and family.

Dr. Itty was raised in Arizona and graduated from Gilbert High School. He then graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern California, where he was elected into Phi Beta Kappa and Order of the Torch. He subsequently attended the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota where he was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship.
After returning to Phoenix for his internship in Preliminary Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He then completed his 2-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles. He joined Retinal Consultants of Arizona in 2015.

Dr. Itty has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on a variety of topics in medical and surgical diseases of the retina. He has served as co-investigator of several clinical trials and has presented his findings at national meetings.

Dr. Palejwala is a Phoenix native completing his high school education at Brophy College Preparatory. He then went on to complete his undergraduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University where he was part of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He then entered medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) national medical honor society and graduated summa cum laude. At Jefferson, he developed a passion for ophthalmology conducting multiple clinical research projects at Wills Eye Institute.
He returned back to the valley for his internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and then went on to pursue a residency in ophthalmology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. After the completion of his residency, he chose to further subspecialize in vitreoretinal surgery at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR. Dr. Palejwala joined Retinal Consultants of Arizona in 2015.

During his training, Dr. Palejwala has performed thousands of ophthalmic procedures, authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and presented his work at local and national scientific meetings. He has a particular interest in novel intravitreal drug delivery systems.

Dr. Palejwala provides care for patients with a wide variety of vitreoretinal disorders including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachment, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, secondary intraocular lens placement, uveitis, and retinal degenerations/dystrophies. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists.
Family Life
Dr. Palejwala and his wife are extremely excited to be back in Arizona after being away for several years. They enjoy spending time with their families who still live in the valley, keeping up with their dog, Apollo (which is not an easy task), and exploring the Arizona landscape. In his free time, Dr. Palejwala enjoys distance running (he has completed multiple marathons and half-marathons), hiking, photography, cooking, and snowboarding.

He returned to Columbus for his medical internship, and he then went on to residency training at Washington University in St. Louis, consistently ranked among the best overall ophthalmology training programs in the country.

Dr. Mehta completed a 2-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, where he received the prestigious J. Donald M. Gass Fellowship Award. Dr. Mehta joined Retinal Consultants of Arizona in 2010.
Dr. Mehta has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on various topics, most notably the management of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, retinal tears and detachments, and endophthalmitis. He has a particular interest in the surgical repair of macular holes, macular puckers, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, and complex retinal detachments.

Dr. Mehta has spoken and/or presented at numerous local and national ophthalmology meetings. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists. He also serves on the board of directors of the Arizona Ophthalmological Society and served as a past President of the Phoenix Ophthalmological Society, a group of Valley professionals who promote excellence in patient care and educate the public about the art and science of ophthalmology.

In his spare time, Dr. Mehta enjoys traveling with his wife, spending time with his two daughters, and golfing. He is dedicated to providing the very best vitreoretinal care in the valley while treating every patient with compassion and respect.

Dr. Goldenberg completed a two-year fellowship in medical and surgical retina at the prestigious Associated Retinal Consultants at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Karim N. Jamal, M.D. graduated from Rice University in Houston, TX with degrees in Biochemistry and Business Management. He returned to his hometown of Binghamton, NY for internship, and went on to residency training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Jamal serves as the Chairman of the Aga Khan Health Board for the Western United States, a voluntary position covering multiple projects throughout the region. He has received the CRCA ‘Top Ophthalmologists in America’ award for four consecutive years, as well as the Peer Reviewed Physicians Cum Laude distinction as a top Retinal Surgeon. He has also received the AKEB Professional Achievement Award, and is listed as a “Top Ophthalmologist and Retinal Surgeon in Arizona” by The Leading Physicians of the World. He also acts as a consultant for the Lead Physician Expert Panel.
Family Life
Dr. Jamal married his wife, Ainee, a pediatric dentist, in 2013. They welcomed in 2015 with the birth of their first son. In their free time, they enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, and taking hiking trips across the continent.

Edward J. Quinlan, M.D. graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1994. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at West Virginia University Medical Center and a 2 year Vitreoretinal fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute of the Johns Hopkins Hospitals in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Quinlan was on the faculty of the Wilmer Eye Institute as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology from 2002-2007.

During his time at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Dr. Quinlan served as a principal investigator and co-investigator in numerous clinical trials. His research involved the investigation of new treatments for retinal diseases including age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and has led to publications in peer reviewed journals.
