Treatment Diabetic Macular Edema

In this study, we are recruiting patients with moderate stages of diabetic retinopathy. The concern in patients with diabetic retinopathy is that the condition will progress over the lifetime of the patient and they may incur progressive vision loss. The mainstay of therapy in diabetic retinopathy has been a combination of laser, anti-VEGF, and steroid therapy. This study utilizes a novel genetic therapy which codes for the “blueprint instructions” to teach the retinal cells to produce their own anti-VEGF molecule. This allows the eye to be its own factory of medication thus reducing the need for repeated injections. The genetic therapy is injected into the supra-choroidal space of the eye in a single in-office procedure. Initial studies have shown both a favorable efficacy and safety profile.
