Education & Honors
L. Milad Haak, MD completed his undergraduate studies in Biochemistry with the highest honors at the University of California, Davis. He then entered medical school at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
He completed his internship at Harbor UCLA, a Level 1 Trauma center, and continued his training in ophthalmology at the University of California, San Diego. It was there that he focused his medical and surgical training entirely in ophthalmology. During his residency, he provided care for thousands of acute and chronic patients in different hospitals throughout the San Diego area.
Upon finishing residency, he obtained further training and completed a 2-year fellowship in the management of vitreo-retinal diseases in Chicago, learning the latest surgical techniques and medical management paradigms.
He provides care for patients of all ages and a wide variety of vitreo-retinal disorders including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, trauma, retinal tears, primary and complex retinal detachments, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, secondary intraocular lens placements, and uveitis. Dr. Haak joined Retinal Consultants of Arizona in 2014.
Accolades & Authorships
In addition to maintaining excellent academic records, he also served as the class co-president for 2 years during medical school. He received his medical degree with honors being inducted in the AOA Medical Society (A national distinction given to the top 15% of the medical school’s graduating class). During his residency, Dr. Haak was awarded for outstanding teaching to medical students and obtaining the highest scores on comprehensive national examinations.
Aside from medicine and ophthalmology, he enjoys traveling and has run the Chicago Marathon twice. When not in the clinic or the operating room, you’ll probably find him on a soccer field or tennis court.
